here's a small preview

SNEAK PEAK

The last two were just fun shots, and I won't be using them in the zine. The second last shot looks that way because there was some water vapour trapped in my camera and lenses, so it looks very filmy and blurred, but it's me holding a little hermit crab :) The last shot is me trying to show my brother a little fish under the rock.

The most editing I did on these shots is a bit of straightening and some of them required a brightness and contrast adjustment, but most of the photos I did not edit.

I don't know which photos of these I will use, or whether I'll use any of these photos at all. I still have hundreds of these, not to mention the hundreds I took on my Holga 35mm (which I am getting developed this week and will scan in ASAP)

This issue is going to be about all of the different beaches I saw while I was away. I have to start working on my written piece as well, which will also be fitting in with this theme. I'm also going to change the name of the zine, I'm just not feelin' it anymore.

So, I'm off to Kuala Lumpur tonight...
I'll be staying there for 4 nights, then I'm off to Phuket.
This is where it all begins!!!!
I don't know if I'll be able to blog while I'm there, depending if there is wifi and a computer to use...
I'm so excited to get this project going, send me any suggestions/feedback/anything you want to tell me  here

okay something I've been inspired by lately: minimalism, clean lines, simple things
that's always kinda been my 'niche' but I'm just exploring the aesthetics a little more lately

 

 

 

I'm thinking that minimalism should play a big part in my zine, and I've considered keeping the front and back covers one plain colour instead of using an image or bold typography etc. I'm kind of downsizing my life at the moment, I think Aureole should show that.

I'm getting a little self conscious though, thinking that the way I talk about this project is too self centered and I don't like that. I guess I've always been the quiet unachiever.

Another thing I've been thinking lately is whether I even want to call it Aureole anymore. But then I wouldn't have clue what else to call it. There are so many things to consider with this project.

I've already started on some writing and a conceptual work that I'll be using in the first issue, so don't think I'm slacking off or anything. 

I also started up a new personal blogspot. The old one I had (where I would just write and post whatever I wanted) got a bit too personal for my liking, so I'm just going to start fresh and I'll probably eventually move here permanently from tumblr, since tumblr has been giving me the shits lately and I've had to stop posting on it. So my new blog is here and I'll just be posting whatever I like there I guess. Kinda like tumblr but more 'refined'? 

Anyway I'm rambling, if you have read this far I salute you

I am terribly sorry for not posting anything lately. It's not that I've been lacking inspiration, because in fact it's been the complete opposite. I've been hit by a surge of inspiration as of late and I don't really know what to do with it. I don't know how to articulate it into a visually appealing blog post nor do I know how to apply it to anything related to this imaginary magazine. Also I have been busy coping with a low depressive state as well as exams, so the aftermath hasn't looked too peachy so far.

I promise I will resurrect my posts as soon as I can. Exams are over tomorrow, I have more time to be creative.

I'm planning on buying some cahiers tomorrow also, just to get some ideas flowing. I will post them too. I'm hoping to start constructing and producing the first issue towards the beginning of August. Bear with me guys!!!!

In the meantime I'm always on tumblr, so please drop by if you aren't following me already

兩 人 出 品 has been one of my all time favourite flickrs for as long as I can remember. Their photostream is just filled with zines from all over the world, it's actually quite inspiring. I would have posted more that I liked but then this post would go on forever, so go check them out here
